Welcome to our August 2026 Newsletter! As the hot and humid weather continues, so does our newsletter. Please read on to discover this month’s happenings and we hope you enjoy!

  • August is Itchy Pet Awareness Month. One of the most common ailments that brings pets to the vet are allergies. Especially now at the peak of summer when seasonal allergies, environmental irritants, and pests, like fleas, can reach their height, many dogs and cats are left licking and chewing their paws. If your pets have red, inflamed skin or are excessively licking, scratching, and shaking their heads, then they may have allergies. Allergies can be seasonal or year-round, being caused by pollen, flea bites, and food sensitivities. If left untreated, they can lead to secondary skin infections. If you think your pets might be suffering from allergies, then please contact your veterinarian for treatment so your pets can be happy and comfortable all year long.

  • August 17th is National Black Cat Appreciation Day.‍ Unfortunately, due to superstitions associating black cats with bad luck, these loveable felines are less likely to be adopted. This holiday is dedicated to bringing awareness to this fact and urging people to consider adopting a black cat.

  • August 30th is National Holistic Pet Day. Holistic pet care considers a pet’s physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as environmental factors, instead of focusing solely on treating specific symptoms. When conventional veterinary medicine is used alongside holistic treatments, such as supplements, acupuncture, and massage, it can be greatly beneficial to the pet. If you are interested in treating your pets holistically with acupuncture, herbal supplements, or Chinese medicine, then please contact us to schedule a consultation.

  • Pet of the Month: This month, we are shining a spotlight on Hemi, our surgical technician Michelle’s dog. A five-year-old golden retriever mix, he loves to play catch and eat treats. A stubborn boy, he doesn’t always bring the ball back when playing fetch and still pretends to be a lap dog!
