Welcome to our June 2026 Newsletter! Just as June brings on the start of summer, it also marks the third installment of our monthly newsletter. Please read on to discover this month’s happenings and we hope you enjoy!
June is Pet Preparedness Month. Unfortunately, emergencies and disasters can strike at any time. If and when they will happen, our furry friends will rely on us to keep them safe. By preemptively creating an emergency preparedness plan that includes every member of our pack, it can help each of us respond more calmly in difficult situations. In addition to April and May’s holidays reminding us to microchip our pets and create first aid kits, other ways we can keep our pets safe include:
Packing a pet go-bag. If you need to safely transport your pets, having an emergency bag already packed can help immensely. Things to include in this kit are any essential medications, sturdy leashes and carriers, collars with up-to-date ID tags, comfort items such as toys or blankets, bowls, and at least a few days’ worth of food and water.
Keeping records ready. Always have copies of your pets’ medical records, vaccination history, and microchip information on hand. Also, having at least one digital or physical photo of your pets handy can help in the case that your pet becomes lost.
Knowing your destination. If evacuation is required, it is important to have a plan on where to bring your pets. Since not all emergency shelters accept animals, identify pet-friendly accommodations such as hotels, boarding facilities, or a trusted sitter outside your immediate area.
June 4th is National Hug Your Cat Day. Now that you have created an emergency preparedness plan, it is now time to celebrate by hugging your cat. Even if your cats do not like cuddling, this day is a good reminder to shower them with love and attention on a daily basis.
June also marks National Dog Dad Day, dedicated to celebrating all of the dog dads out there! Take the time to hang out with your pups and reflect on how they have made a positive impact on your lives!
Pet of the Month: This month, we are shining a spotlight on Ginger Chai, our receptionist and social media manager Desiree’s dog. Despite turning 13 years old on the 21st, this chihuahua/toy fox terrier mix is still the most dedicated “security guard” of her house. When she is not guarding her parents against the dangers of a leaf, a gust of wind, or a delivery driver, she enjoys curling up under a blanket on the couch and taking a long nap. Happy Birthday, Ging!
